Parent - Teacher Interviews for Room 5 Children

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Next Monday and Tuesday I will be available after school for parent - teacher interviews. Please ring the office to make a time so we avoid double bookings.

If you would like to meet at a different time (before school or lunchtimes) or day please contact me directly. You can phone or text.

I'm more than happy to discuss your child's progress over the phone if you are unable to come to school. If this is the case text me and I will ring back.

My phone number is 0275566759.

Kind regards

Nathan Vickerstaff

Show Not Tell

Room 5 are working on making our writing more interesting. We are taking a boring sentence and making it come alive by showing not telling the highlighted words.

WALT show not tell in our writing

She was happy and excited when she went for a swim on the hot sunny day with her best friend.

How do we feel, look like, and what do we do when we are happy and excited? (SHOW)

How can we SHOW she went for a swim?

How can we SHOW the hot sunny day?

How can we SHOW a best friend?

WILF
I will begin by describing what the characters body felt like.
I will describe what has happened using my senses.
I will describe what they were thinking
I will leave the audience hanging

REMEMBER TO
·                     Write in the third person

·                     Use capital letters and full stops.

Welcome to Term 4

Welcome to term 4 everyone. There is only nine weeks of school left for the year with lots of learning still to happen! This term we have our Athletics Day coming up along with Parent-Teacher interviews and reports.

Have a look at the Online Cloze Reading we are doing in class and children can practice at home as well. This is one way to support comprehension and understanding when reading a story. We use 5 strategies to support our learning and picking the right word

  1. Looking for capital letters because we know sentences start with a capital letter.
  2. Does the sentence make sense with the word we are using?
  3. Try all the words to see what word makes the most sense.
  4. Read on past the blank space to help gain more meaning.
  5. Look for words in the text that have a relationship with a word in the list (garden -overgrown, window - broken, running - feet)
We are all looking forward to a great term.

Continue the story

Can you continue the story?

Stretched beyond all possible limits his gaze into the the distance was unbroken. A sea of sand lay before him. Behind was a cloud of smoke and the smell of burning rubber tweaked his nostril hairs as he gulped down fresh air. A puddle of water mixed with bubbling oil quickly disappeared and vapourised into oblivion. Moving slowly, head pounding, he started putting one foot in front of the other. He only had one chance...

What Animal is Me?

If you could be any animal what would you pick? Maybe a cuddly puppy or an enormous crocodile? Would you like to soar the sky's like an eagle or travel the dark depths of the ocean like a whale?

For me its all about cruising!!! I would like to be a Galapagos Tortoise. Not do much, other than swimming the warm oceans and sunbathing on golden sand. Maybe a bite to eat every now and then and lots of sleep.

So who would you like to be and why?
